Picture Frame Turned Serving Tray

I got this easy DIY idea from my mom and actually had a spare window of time to try it out! If you're feeling like creating something you can be proud of, but not spending too much time or using too much elbow grease, then this is the perfect endeavor for you! You'll hardly spend any money either if you've already got a picture frame stashed in a closet somewhere.
Materials:
- Picture frame
- Decorations of choice for underneath the frame glass
- Painting supplies (if you're going to paint the frame)
- Drill
- Pair of drawer pulls with appropriate screws

Picture frame before it's makeover

First, I decided to paint the frame an ivory color and then distressed the corners and edges using a sandpaper sponge.

Next, I used my new Silhouette for the very first time!!

My first try didn't work out so well, but I got it on my second! So fun!!

Then, it was time to get the drill and put those handles on!
Aren't these great! I found them at Target, 2 for $16!
Enter wonderful husband! I needed his help to get these handles on, and he's much better with a drill than me!

And here's the finished project!!

I just used scrapbook paper for the background, but the ideas are limitless! I can't wait to do this project again using fabric and some doilies I found at a thrift store!
If you're not feeling up to digging out the drill, a picture frame looks great as a tray without handles also. Check out this beautiful frame turned tray from Hey Now, Whoah Now!

Love this quote Amy has on her blog:“The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.” -Maya Angelou

So, what do you think? Has this been added to your "to try" list?

I'm linking this up with WhisperWood Cottage's 1st Project of the Year Party!

  9. I loved tray/frame, so I created one for my friend, she has a new baby on the way and decorated the room with Dr Suess theme. I painted a picture on canvas of 1 fish, 2 fish, red fish, blue fish and added the handles. It turned out great. Thanks for the idea!
